I found a Cassiopeia hat

Beginning Friday June 16, the Newport to Bermuda Race course is one of the most interesting and challenging ocean courses anywhere and depending on weather conditions the race can be won by big boats, small boats or boats in the middle of the fleet.

I found a Cassiopeia hat

While swimming at the beach today ( Wednesday June 28, 2006 ) I found a hat underwater. It probably has great sentimental value to its owner and I will assist in its return. I will give some descriptions but will leave out some details, so you must prove it is yours before I will return it to you. The front is embroidered with the Newport-Bermuda Centennial Race logo. The boat's name, Cassiopeia, is embroidered on the back. Inside the hat is inscribed the owner's name. You can message me to make your claim on this keepsake.

I found a Cassiopeia hat

Congratulations to Cassiopeia on your race result. Ocean racing is a very ambitious undertaking. My own sailing experience is limited to the bay. "My hat's off" to skipper and crew.

Just in case you're tracking the currents around Newport, the hat was found at at the western end of Sachuest Beach in Middletown aka Newport's 2nd Beach. Sachuest Bay is about 4 miles East of Castle Hill as the crow flies (and much farther as the bass swims). With the prevailing on-shore wind and the acute angle the beach makes with the cliffs (aka Purgatory Chasm), this beach holds onto its flotsam and jetsam. After twelve days in the water, the hat has a small rust stain where the string-clip was fastened. The little string-clip is still on it.

An embroidered hat on debit Mastercard . . . $27, but with the story surrounding it? Priceless! My wife wants a free tummy tuck. Ha ha. Just kidding.
