Bugaboo ... steadfast

This race begins Sat, June 9. On June 18, 1979, 20 solo sailors crossed the starting line at Newport, Rhode Island and nosed out into the North Atlantic to challenge the ocean and each other in a grueling 635-mile single-handed race to St. George’s, Bermuda. In boats ranging from 22 to 41 feet in length, these sailors were the pioneer participants in the first running of what has now become a biennial tradition - the Bermuda One-Two.

 John... just a few days ago our boats sat beam to bow in the bucolic harbor at wickford. Do not let the seas wear you down! You are sailing for a good cause. You are the US Navy! Bring that Catalina to the finish line...you can do it. I have read your patience and perserverance through your words. We are all with you...all the guys at the marina..(OK, I'm just a girl skipper but one of the guys) Stay steadfast and strong. Becky aka Persephone    head for the finish!

:P Phew! Congratulations to Bugaboo! I'm so glad you guys went out to tow him in ... I imagine he got asloshed with love and kisses from his wife and family...might the webmaster get him to post some details of his adventure online or do we have to wait 'til he gets home...

I was talking to the guys at his Marina and we talked about stuff like...how much food and water did he have? Did he really lose his electronic capacity? He had handheld GPS? Could anyone go out there and give him provisions?

I DID tie a yellow ribbon on the dock piling near his slip. Everyone will be glad to know he is safe in Bermuda. His dream come true and I'm sure he conquered any and all demons along the way. When I read Skipper Harris's log and HE mentions terror...well, that will leave me in the coastal sailor ranks!

Will his wife let him do the second leg back???????? Looking forward for the second part of the race.

BTW WEBMASTERS...the movie view of the boat tracking is sooo cool !
