Leader Board vs. Boat Mapper

Beginning Friday June 15 and Saturday June 16, the Marion to Bermuda race experience is fantastic; the beat out of the Bay, the storms and the calms, the Gulf Stream guessing game and the smell of bougainvillea as you approach Bermuda and the finish line at St. David's Light. It has been a wonderful 30 years, starting from a race that began with two old sailing buddies talking about racing from Marion to Bermuda and inviting their friends, to each boat being tracked through satellite navigation for all the world to follow.

Leader Board vs. Boat Mapper

I've noticed that the status reported on the Leader Board and the Boat Mapper are not the same. Which is more accurate?

Both the leaderboard and the mapper get updated every 15 minutes. The leaderboard, however, is first in line during each update. This usually isn't noticeable since the trackers are reporting every 2h, but there is a slight chance that you could hit the mapper before it has gotten refreshed. When in doubt, please refresh your browser -- this is most commonly done by pressing the F5 key.

Do you mean that the transponders on the boats only report every 2 hours? Or is your reference to trackers something else?

You're right. Trackers = trasponders (in my head at any rate!). From the help page:
How often do the boats report a position?

The trackers collect a GPS position every two hours and then transmit that position to the satellites. There is some "dither" from the time we receive the actual position reports. Thus, most positions will be reported sometime between the hour and 20 minutes after the hour. Also, it may take up to 40 minutes for a position to show up on the mapper and leaderboard.
