Accuracy of tracks, data for tracks?

Postby usa51008 » Wed Jul 23, 2008 3:34 pm

Does anyone know how accurate the trasponders are in tracking? Are the track files available for download? I ask because it looks as though a few boats in our section, 8, did not go through Grey's Reef properly.

Thanks,

I'll let our iboat manager George attest to the tracker accuracy -- that's his department. I can help you w/ the rest, however.

Go to the leaderboard and click on a boat name in the left hand column. The page that pops up will have a link to downloadable data. If that's not what you're after, ask again, and we'll see what we can do.

Hi,

The trackers are programmed to transmit every hour and between each position, a straight line is drawn. In this case, the individual boat(s) may have followed the rules and successfully passed through Gray's Reef, and our tracks connecting the positions before and after the Reef may indicate otherwise.

Regarding the accuracy of positions, the coordinates that the tracker pushes out every hour are accurate to around 40 sq. ft.
