Robert's Day in Memphis - 17 November

I picked Robert up at the Mud Island boat launch at 730 am. He had to paddle across the river and down about 3/4 mile to get to my position from his camping spot. We loaded his equipment in the car and canoe on top. Took him to my crash pad. He said he didn't need to shower or do laundry (which I found odd) so we went to Perkin's for breakfast. At breakfast he made plans for lunch. Between the two meals we bought groceries and toured downtown Memphis and Mud Island. At lunch he made plans for dinner and decided to spend the night. He did some laundry and took a real long shower that he "didn't" need. Had Memphis BBQ for dinner with another pilot that Robert knows through remote control airplane flying. He should be well fed and well rested when he leaves in the morning. The tracker has his canoe's position properly located in my garage today and tonight.

Hi All,

One of the big attractions in downtown Memphis is Mud Island -- well named. A bridge crosses over to the island and behind the island is a marina. Just south of town Memphis has a sheltered harbor and another marina. These are the only two marinas on the lower river between Alton ILL. and Greenville MS.

The big attraction on Mud Island is the river walk. A detailed scale model of the entire lower Mississippi from Cairo to the Gulf. The river walk is 5 blocks long and, apart from the fact that the water is clear, it's pretty accurate. Here's a couple photos:

In that second photo the young boy you see standing in the New Madrid loop is my son Isaac who, like Bob now, has paddled and boated Old Man River.

Hi All,

Johngytri mentioned that Bob had BBQ for dinner in Memphis. Memphis is BBQ ground zero and Memphis BBQ is the BBQ by which all others are measured and to which all others humbly aspire. Unmentionable things like Texas BBQ, as much a pretender as the recent fake Texas president, and Kansas City BBQ, shudder to think of it, do not blight the streets of the Queen City. Memphians know where to get BBQ, here's the place, The world's best BBQ:
