How will the Class Position be determined? Just the closest to the finish or does it incorporate corrected time?

Dear Hap,

If you look on the Leader board, you'll see that we calculate both the fleet, class and class handicap positions. All are estimates and unofficial of course. We'll be using both IRC and PHRF ratings. One is time on time while the other is time on distance.

Chet, can you define Est. Handicap Class Position .. is it something like estimated class position now taking into account the "handicap" that will be used to determine corrected time? And is it true that MRR Speed is instantaneous speed through the water? Or is it some average?

Hi Jack,

Est. Handicap Class Position is the position after applying the IRC or PHRF handicap assigned for a boat. The formulas are:

PHRF (Time on Distance)
(Distance) x (Rating) = Time Allowance
(Elapsed Time) – (Time Allowance) = Corrected Time

IRC (Time on Time)
(Elapsed Time) x (Rating) = Corrected Time

We don't use MRR speed in any of our calculations. Speed is just distance to finish traveled over time.
