iBoat is amazing

Postby Now a LWYC Fan! » Sun Jun 04, 2006 11:45 pm

Just a quick note of appreciation for the folks at LWYC for using this iBoat race tracking system. It is simply superb. It is one thing to see the Vendee, VO70, Ellen McArthur and other global races online during the winter months, but seeing our local boats and skippers out there is simply awesome. Already we have claims by Xavier of a possible case of motoring (for which he makes an interesting observation!). I hope that this is used in the HMR too. Keep up the good work.

The sentiments you expressed above are the very reason I decided to pursue the idea of a tracking system for the regatta early on in my tenure as co-chairman. So strong was my passion, that I had selected the service, ironed-out the logistics and had an executed contract before anybody knew what had hit them. I am both ecstatic and very relieved to see the results. I can tell you CPurvis and I spent a long night on Friday watching this thing come to life. Many thanks to the entire iBoatTrack team!

I can’t speak for the HMR, but don’t be surprised to see this technology on next year’s GBCA Race-to-the-Border.

I, too, am very excited about this whole tracking business! I was most distraught on Friday, when it appeared that Grey Wolf was not transmitting data. We soon remedied the problem between talking to people via the forum, Gary Anderson, as well as others and our ham radio friends who are in contact with the crew. As I was left at home, unable to help crew, I have really enjoyed watching their progress, along with others in the race. I have barely left my computer since Friday! Thanks for making my participation in the race possible!!

what is happening with Whimsey. They seem to be stalled in the middle of the night. How can I find out if they are ok?

Hello,
I am a parent, so really not supposed to be involved. However, I have enjoyed this site so very much!! It makes the race come alive for those who can't afford to live like a gypsy/pirate!!

Thank you to the ones responsible.

While Lakewood would love to take credit, this Regatta is a joint venture of GBCA and LYC, and Kevin Box of GBCA was instrumental in getting this tracking system for the race. He and Gary Anderson of LYC and their committee have worked hard to make this a great race.
I'd love to see something like this for Harvest Moon, but since it is a much shorter race, and since the costs of transponders would more than double the entry fee, I suspect the regatta committee will not be making it mandatory, particularly not for this anniversary year where they hope to see a large number of entrants. But if LYC could get iboattrack to cut us a deal....?!?

WOW! This thing sells itself to an interested party, who cant do the trip, but has enjoyed the action from the comfort of my patio...or bed...or easy chair...

then, i suppose there are all the real reasons for having it, race info, wind info, boat positions...

its really been fun, hate to see it end! sorta

Like many others, I want to express my gratitude to those responsible for incorporating the iBoat site into the regatta. As a parent, it has not only been a lot of fun but it has given Mom some comfort as well. Even my 76 year old Dad has been able to track his Grandson throughout the race! The only negative is that my work has suffered this week because I'm checking the Boat Mapper every 2 hours.

Gracias for everyone who got the transponders onto the raceboats. It has been more fun watching the colored dots flog around (usually in the only part of the Gulf with no wind). And being able to share the race with relatives who havent a clue about sailboats but can connect the dots has been a real blast.

I am glad that they have finished finally. It has been an interesting journey for us, too. Before this We had no idea about Regatta. I still don't think i know whole a lot. but just reading this community message and watching every moment of each boat's trail. I have learned a lot this week.I want to express my appreciation to those who are responsible for incorporating the iBoat site into the regatta. As a mom, it has not only been a lot of fun but it has given me a lot of comfort as well. :D
