Dolphin

Beginning Friday June 16, the Newport to Bermuda Race course is one of the most interesting and challenging ocean courses anywhere and depending on weather conditions the race can be won by big boats, small boats or boats in the middle of the fleet.

I have a buddy on the Dolphin. As of the 10am report, it looks like they're leading the J42's! Upbeat is the next closest at less than 3 miles behind.

How do you track only the J42s?
I have tried several things and it doesn't seem to be an option.
Thanks!!!

My buddy is Ted. I don't know anybody else on the boat either. Ted has been doing these Bermuda races for years. He said since there are nine J42's this year, they get their own class and start.

How I track only the J42's...you can't, technically. Go to the Leader Board page here: http://www.charthorizon.com/races/2006_ ... type=class

Go down to the St. David's Lighthouse section. If you hold your mouse over the boat name, it shows the boat type. If you do that for every one, you'll see Dolphin is the first J42. Let me save you some trouble though. Here's the list of J42's I found, in 10am order:

Dolphin, Upbeat, Mariah, Finesse, Althea, True, Jade, Affinity, Amigo

To the best of my knowledge, they mean nothing. I suspect they're just random colors assigned to each boat/transponder to help fans like us with identification. I could be wrong though.

More info...

Postby jeffthecyclist » Mon Jun 19, 2006 12:37 pm

Ted sent me this link a few days ago with more info on the J42's:
http://www.sailingsource.com/j42class/R ... 202006.htm

Looks like I didn't have to scroll through the entire list on the leader board after all! Oh well....

I'll lend my words of encouragement. The iBoat map shows Dolphin trailing Mariah, Upbeat and maybe Affinity (there are two Affinitys listed) a little to the west of the rhumb line. Is that different from what you guys see?

I'm also tracking friends on Brown-eyed Girl (J44) and Cygnette (Swan 44).

Wind appears to be on the starboard beam but they may be headed into some headwinds.

Hey Ethan,

The boat mapper I see has Dolphin 2 miles ahead of Upbeat as of 1017 this morning. The Affinity in the J42 class is the Affinity (AP PD) boat. The leader board page has a little more detail and lists the Dolphin ahead of Upbeat and Mariah; although they appear very close on the chart.

It just updated the positions after reloading the page several times. Now I see what you're seeing. Nice!

Hey Ethan and J,

I think the page has been partially updated. I see the Dolphin at (on the leader board page) 153.55 nm out and Upbeat at 157.19. The transponder time is still old but ETA and mileage is new. Looks like Dolphin gained about 2 miles on them today. :D
