Paddy Wagon's Tracker

Just received word from a Cabo Race Committee member that Paddy Wagon's GPS tracker has been accidentally kicked overboard and is floating around in the Pacific. So, for those who are wondering why Paddy Wagon's data does'nt seem to be consistent with the expected performance of the vessel, rest assured, they are safely on their way to Cabo (and are definitely way ahead of their data point on the map). Unfortunately, their tracker is now in the hands of Poseidon.

This is our first floating tracker in a race. :o

The trackers aren't designed for total emersion, but it is nice to know that they still work while Posiedon is playing with them.

Perhaps Westerly might spare the captain of Paddy Wagon the tracker deposit and pick the tracker up? Anyone have a long handle fishing net?

The current positon: 03/30 at 0400 PDT is 30.68 N 117.42 W going .7 knots to the south.

A proverbial needle-in-a-haystack - only the needle is telling you where it is!

Don't the boats radio in their location every day? Does that info show up anywhere so we can see how Paddy Wagon is doing?

This is part of the conundrum with race trackers, especially when the competitors are not prohibited from viewing the tracking data. Does Paddy Wagon have an advantage because they can see everyone else's position many times a day, but her competitors can only hear her position from the communications vessel only once a day? Other races prohibit the competitors from looking at the data -- but do they really adhere to the rule? No doubt the trackers are great for us at home -- but there are certainly still some issues for the racers.

Would make an interesting quest to see if one of the boats could find it on the way back up if its still working. I have a 6-pack of beer to the finder. Import beer even.
